James Lenhart, MD, FAAFP,

Family and Community Medicine
Residency Program Director

Dr. Lenhart has spent the majority of his career in residency education and contributes a great depth of academic experience to Yuma Regional Medical Center's program. Dr. Lenhart's faculty experience includes developing the Family Medicine residency program in Wilmington, North Carolina through the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He spent eleven years in various academic roles with The University of Nevada School of Medicine including Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. The Nevada Academy of Family Physicians named Dr. Lenhart Nevada's Outstanding Family Doctor in 2007.

He completed medical school at The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, followed by residency training at Brown University Affiliated Hospitals and an academic Family Medicine faculty development fellowship at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1994. Dr. Lenhart received a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Liverpool in 2010.

Dr. Lenhart is well published in both the medical literature and in fictional medical suspense genres. Sleeping Giant Publishing released his debut novel Conversations for Paco in September 2011; he is currently writing a non-fiction work entitled Be Healthy! Be Happy! An evidence based guide to health and happiness. He is also active in television and media, hosting the television health segment, Dr. Jim's Healthline Today. Dr. Lenhart's professional interests include health promotion, sports medicine, medical ethics and physician workforce issues. He is married to his wife Nancy and has two grown children.

 

 
Edward Paul, MD
Director of Medical Education

Dr. Paul initiated Graduate Medical Education at Yuma Regional Medical Center in 2009, realizing the great opportunities for teaching residents at the hospital and in the community. Dr. Paul is board certified in Family Medicine and has been a full time faculty and a Family Medicine residency program director for most of his career. He has taught residents and medical students in rural and urban locations, including both community hospitals and university settings.

Dr. Paul has served as the residency program director at The University of Arizona Family Medicine Program in Tucson and Penn State University Family Medicine Program in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He has been active with Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) programs in Pennsylvania and Arizona, serving his interest in improving the primary care healthcare workforce in rural communities.

He is a graduate from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. Dr. Paul also serves on the board of directors of the National Center for Medical – Legal Partnership. His other interests include strategizing care for underserved and rural populations, as well as chronic pain management.

Dr. Paul is a leader in Family Medicine in Arizona. He has recently served as President of the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians; he is currently a board member and the Chair of the Legislative Affairs Task Force of that organization. Dr. Paul was recently awarded the prestigious honor of Arizona Academy of Family Physicians (AzAFP) 2011 Physician of the Year. His family includes his wife, Mary, three daughters currently in college, and two Westies.
