Spiritual Care and Patient Advocacy

Yuma Regional Medical Center is committed to the total well-being of its patients and staff. The Spiritual Care Department serves as an integral part of the healing team by addressing the emotional and spiritual needs of patients while they are receiving medical care.

The Spiritual Care Department serves patients in four ways:

Spiritual Care

The path to restored health can result in intense emotional and spiritual crises for many individuals. Professionally certified Chaplains and Chaplain Residents are available 24 hours a day to care for the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, families and staff. These specially trained professionals are skilled listeners who can offer comfort and solace while honoring all faiths and beliefs.

Integrated Therapies

To assist patients in the healing process, the Spiritual Care Department offers the following integrated therapies:

  • Healing Touch -- Non-medicinal pain management used in conjunction with other therapies to reduce anxiety through the balancing of the patient's energy field.
  • Guided Imagery -- A voice directed "day dream" designed to enhance the healing process and pain and stress management, as well as to help patients prepare for surgery.

Patient Advocacy

Our Patient Advocates are registered nurses to who work with patients and family members to address complaints about hospital care and services. Patient Advocates are experts in assisting with concerns that are not or cannot be addressed by the patient's care team members.

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)

The YRMC Clinical Pastoral Education program is accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Five residencies are typically offered each year.
